construction of vector fields with positive lyapunov exponents
in this thesis our aim is to construct vector field in r3 for which the corresponding one-dimensional maps have certain discontinuities. two kinds of vector fields are considered, the first the lorenz vector field, and the second originally introced here. the latter have chaotic behavior and motivate a class of one-parameter families of maps which have positive lyapunov exponents for an open in...
15 صفحه اولRobust Detection of Singularities in Vector Fields
Recent advances in computational science enable the creation of massive datasets of ever increasing resolution and complexity. Dealing effectively with such data requires new analysis techniques that are provably robust and that generate reproducible results on any machine. In this context, combinatorial methods become particularly attractive, as they are not sensitive to numerical instabilitie...
متن کاملHigher Order Singularities in Piecewise Linear Vector Fields
Piecewise linear interpolation of 2D scattered vector data is a classical, simple and fast scheme to process the discrete information provided by experiments or numerical simulations. Nevertheless, its major drawback is its low order that prevents satisfying approximation of non linear behaviors. For topology-based methods in particular, commonly applied in vector field visualization, it often ...
متن کاملPermutation Polynomials and Resolution of Singularities over Finite Fields
A geometric approach is introduced to study permutation polynomials over a finite field. As an application, we prove that there are no permutation polynomials of degree 2/ over a large finite field, where / is an odd prime. This proves that the Carlitz conjecture is true for n = 21. Previously, the conjecture was known to be true only for n < 16.
متن کاملMelnikov theory for finite-time vector fields
Melnikov theory provides a powerful tool for analysing time-dependent perturbations of autonomous vector fields that exhibit heteroclinic orbits. The standard theory requires that the perturbed vector field be defined, and bounded, for all times. In this paper, Melnikov theory is adapted so that it is applicable to vector fields that are defined over sufficiently large, but finite, time interva...
